Ayant souvent déménagé, je cherche à garder le souvenir de mes anciennes demeures : le Manteau mnémonique a été conçu pour servir cet objectif. Ci-dessus est présenté le premier prototype. Bien qu’il ressemble à un manteau ordinaire, sa doublure est pourtant parsemée de compartiments matelassés à la main. Lorsque j’y dépose de la terre des lieux où j’ai vécu, celle-ci passe par un trou, coule à travers la doublure et s’accumule à l’intérieur du manteau. Le vêtement s’alourdit avec le temps et devient difficile à porter, symbolisant le poids psychologique et la lassitude liés à ses déplacements récurrents.
Having moved often, I wish to hold on to the memories of my former homes; the Mnemonic Coat was conceived to aid me in this endeavour. Depicted here is the first prototype. From the outside, it resembles a normal coat; however, throughout its lining, I hand-quilted compartments. When soil from my past home landscapes is dropped into its pocket, the earth slips through the hole and trickles through the coat’s lining to accumulate. Over time, the coat becomes increasingly heavy and difficult to wear, symbolizing the mental weight and weariness from frequent relocations.
