Northern Landscape Project, Ink-jet prints, 16″x20″, 2008-2014.
The Northern Landscape Study is a long-term project where I photograph multiple Canadian Arctic and Subarctic régions and record the traces left by people as they inhabit Canada’s North. With these deceiving mundane images, I dismantle the myth of the subarctic as barren land and reveal a realistic view of Canada’s North as a landscape historical and cultural complex.
Étude du paysage nordique est un long projet lors duquel je photographe plusieurs régions arctiques et subarctiques canadiennes et enregistre les traces laissées par les gens qui habitent le nord du Canada. Avec ces images qui à première vue peuvent paraitre banales, je démonte le mythe présentant la région subarctique comme une terre stérile et propose une vision réaliste d’un paysage nord-canadien complexe sur le plan culturel, qui a été modelé par une histoire riche.
